Day 3- 8/12/06

• 8:00am- Two great things await us today. The first, it is our team doctor’s birthday, Robert, and the second, but not meant to overshadow the first is that it is a rest day and everyone is very excited. We are looking forward to some much needed R & R, especially after pushing so hard the past two days.

  
  • 1:00pm- The camp is relatively quiet, just some porters and a few climbing teams have been milling around. The summit of Mount Kilimanjaro hangs over us with defiance. It’s both beautiful and sad because the snow is disappearing so quickly.

  
  • 1:30pm- All the food has been terrific and we can’t say enough wonderful things about our porters. They truly are the unsung heroes of Kilimanjaro. Darol is doing well and we are about to have a team meeting.

  
  • 5:00pm- We are at 16,000ft. Everyone is cleaning up and hanging out…simply resting. We will have dinner and a good nights sleep, because based on the last couple of days we know we have a long road ahead of us.
